Situation
The Mzab region in central Morocco was facing economic collapse. Decades of reliance on cereal farming had made an entire territory vulnerable to drought. And the drought wasn’t temporary. Meanwhile across Europe, most chili imports traveled from Mexico and the United States, arriving weeks old, carrying a substantial carbon footprint, and priced to reflect the distance.
The Real Problem
The land wasn’t the problem. The model was. No one had mapped what the microclimate could actually support. And no one had questioned whether the local intermediary system was worth keeping.
The Move
Rebuilt from the soil up. Ran granular microclimate analysis to identify high-yield, drought-resistant crops. Hot chili peppers emerged as the answer. Structured a vertically integrated operation and built a direct export pipeline to global buyers, cutting out every intermediary.
What Changed
50 tons of organic harvest in year two. 72% ROI. A region that was economically stranded now had a self-sustaining commercial engine, built from nothing, tied to global demand.
